Right, here's the treatment. :)
Title: 'Hit The Road' by Faded Cadence
Synopsis:
Storyline: The beginning of the video will portray a young couple arguing before deciding to go their separate ways. The camera will then follow each, mostly the young woman, as she reminisces about her relationship with her boyfriend. A series of memories will be interspersed throughout the video, along with various band shots. They eventually reconcile as they realise that they are better together.
Characters: Male character in relationship, played by Matt. Female character in relationship, played by Cassie.
Setting: There will be various settings, mostly in and around Ludlow. The opening shots of the video will take place on the Bridge over the River Teme. The characters within the relationship will be featured outside by the Lynney. Bridge, roads through Ludlow, (for the band) Drama studio. Length of music track: 3 minutes 20 seconds. Format: Mini DV.
Style: (genre, mood, influences, claims to originality) Indie pop, emotional and retrospective view, 'Wake Me Up When September Ends' by Green Day, the song is original and the location is uncommon.
Style: (camera work / types of shots)Naomi Carpenter as camera woman and Sony Handycam with tripod will be used. A range of shots will be incorporated.
Style: (length of shots / editing, movement and action, and visual qualities) Shots will be between 5 and 20 seconds. All editing will be done in Final Cut Express. There is a constant drum beat running through the song, so the shots will be timed to change with those. Editing style will be simple yet artistic, in black and white or grey-scale. The contrast and brightness will also be changed to give more distinction between the memories and band scenes. Memory scenes will be in normal colours with an effect, such as glow, to give it a dream like feel. The end shot will transform from the greyscale, to normality, to show that their relationship is back to the state it was in during the memory sequence. The band scenes will be in normal colour and will have no added effect to them.
Style: (Use of music, Use of Voice and Sound, and Handling of Narrative) The music featured in the video will be ‘Hit the Road’ by Faded Cadence, a Birmingham unsigned band. The song lasts for a total of 3:20. Other than the music, there is the sound of a storm at the start which lasts for around eight seconds; this will be used for the argument between the couple. The narrative will be a young couple, in their late teens, breaking up and going their own ways. The song will follow their journey as the girl walks away and the boy tries to contact her. The girl will then remember moments that she shared with her boyfriend. This will make her change her mind and she will return to him. They then meet on the bridge on whichthey broke up.The couple will embrace. This will show that the couple have ended up in the same place that they started.
Target Audience: The target audience for this music video is young adults and teenagers. This is due to the fact that the couple is young and they can relate to such a relationship. The genre of the music, indie pop, also has many young artists and bands that young adults and teenagers can relate to.
Technical Aspects: (Production methods, equipment, and locations/studio) All work will be uploaded to the blog. All tasks will be divided up and performed as a group where possible. All work will be signed by everyone that is there and individual work, such as research and textual analyses, will be signed by the individual. The equipment used will be a Sony Handycam, a tripod, lights, digital cameras, musical instruments (microphone, keyboard, acoustic guitar and drums), and Apple Macs. The main locations for filming will be the bridge, the Lynney, the Drama studio, classrooms and by the castle.
Resources: (People, Time, and Budget) Lydia Hughes will be blogger and a part of group work along with helping with camera work when extra help is needed. Naomi Carpenter will be camera woman and a part of group work. Rhiannon Morris will be the main editor (however, everyone will contribute to editing process) and a part of group work. Zoë Penlington will be director, and editor of the DigiPak images, and will be a part of group work. However, everyone within the group will contribute to ideas, editing and construction of the music video and ancilliary products. The band will consist of four members: James/Jim Mann, who will play the lead male vocalist, Samuel Mann, who will play the acoustic guitar player, Luke Morgan, will play the drum player, and finally Zoë Penlington will play the lead female vocalist and the keyboard player. There will be 4 hours 20 minutes of class time each week and extra time when the whole group or the majority of the group will be free to do work. The budget for this project is relatively cheap, as we are using college equipment. Possible props may need to be bought.
Rationale: (Why the video is worth making) The band that we are representing, do not have a music video out yet, so this could be used in the future. (Band scenes could be changed if the band decided to use the music video). The music video could also be used as promotional material. As we have gained copyright permission to use the song, 'Hit The Road', we will be publishing various videos to YouTube which could help to advertise the band, and therefore increase their song sales.
Thanks,
Lydia, Naomi, Rhiannon and Zoe.
